Zydus Cadila reduces the price of vaccine: After constant talks with the central government, Zydus Cadila has agreed to reduce the price of its Covid-19 vaccine to Rs 265 per dose, but the final agreement has not been reached yet.
Each dose of needle-free Zycov-D vaccine would require a disposable painless jet applicator costing Rs 93, which would cost Rs 358 per dose.
A source said that the Ahmedabad-based pharma company had earlier offered a price of Rs 1,900 for its three-dose drug.
After repeated talks between the company and the government, the cost of each dose of the vaccine has been fixed at Rs 358. It includes a disposable jet applicator for Rs 93. The final decision in this matter is likely to be taken this week. The three doses are to be given at an interval of 28 days, the source said.
The world’s first indigenously developed DNA-based needle-free COVID-19 vaccine, Zycov-D, received emergency use approval from the drug regulator on August 20. It is the first vaccine to be given to adolescents 12 years of age and older.
Meanwhile, the government is awaiting the recommendations of the National Technical Advice on Immunization (NTAGI) to provide ZycoV-D vaccines to adults and children with other diseases.
NTAGI will prepare the protocol and framework for the inclusion of this vaccine in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
