One of the most crucial elements for maintaining human life is food. The world must be able to consistently produce enough wholesome meal for everyone, everywhere in order to establish a sustainable world.

Dr Pal Romany, former agriculture and food minister for Hungary, proposed the creation of World Food Day in November 1979. More than 150 nations around the world observe it.

This Day is observed annually on October 16 to commemorate the anniversary of the foundation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
