He’s a rapper, record producer, and designer – and now Kanye West wants to become the 46th president of the US.
Just once you thought 2020 couldn’t get weirder, rapper Kanye West declared his candidacy for US president.
The challenger to Donald Trump- of whom he has been a vocal supporter before – and Joe Biden, selected American Independence Day to form the surprise announcement on Twitter, which triggered the social media.
Did Kanye officially announced about joining the US presidential race?
The hip-hop icon officially announced he’s joining the race to the White House on Saturday because the country was celebrating its National Day.
‘We all should now realize in the promise of America by trusting God and unifying our vision and building our future. I’m running for president of us,’ he tweeted, adding an emoji of the U.S. flag followed by the hashtag #2020Vision.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether West is basically serious about going against current President Donald Trump and his main challenger, former vice-chairman Joe Biden, in November’s presidential election.
Kanye filled the official paperwork for the election?
With just four months to travel until Americans head to the polls, West is extremely late to hitch the party. The tweet announcing his presidential candidacy wasn’t including an in-depth statement, and therefore the songwriter has been mum on what his platform is meant to be. Also, the unknown is whether or not West has filled the paperwork to possess his name added to the election ballots, although there’s still time for that.
The surprise announcement soon became a top trending topic on Twitter, with Americans sharing their two cents about the prospect of the West ending up within the Oval Office.
Many were quick to precise their opposition to the West, reminding the musician of his 2018 controversy when he infamously said slavery was a “choice.”
When we said anybody else but Trump we do not mean Kanye. Never in my life am I voting for anyone who thinks 400 + years of slavery was a choice, one Twitter user commented.
But others are throwing their weight behind the 21-time Grammy award winner.
Nor was it clear whether the 43-year-old had filed any official paperwork to seem on state election ballots. The deadline to feature independent candidates to the ballot has not yet passed in many nations.
What Elon Musk tweeted about Kanye West’s presidency?
But after businessman and reality television star Trump won the White House in 2016, perhaps the thought of Kim Kardashian as the first lady might be written within the stars as America’s fate.
And Kanye West- who won 21-time Grammy award, picked up an instantaneous endorsement from Elon Musk, who is the chief executive of the electric car maker Tesla and another celebrity who is also known for eccentric outbursts and he tweeted in reply: “You have my full support”
West and his wife have visited Trump within the White House to debate prison reform. At one bizarre meeting in 2018, West wore a red “Make America Great Again” cap and uttered words like “motherfucker” and “infinite amounts of universe”. He said Trump made him desire Superman, hugged him, and declared: “I love this guy right here.”
Asked if West might be a future presidential candidate, Trump replied: “Could alright be.”
Indeed, the rapper has floated the thought of running for president before. In January his last year, a tweet that said simply “2024” was interpreted as a symbol that he would run the White House that year.
What are Kim Kardashian’s reviews about his husband’s presidency?
West’s wife and reality television star Kim Kardashian retweet his announcement with a U.S. flag emoji, while Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk replied with “You have my full support!” under Kanye’s post.
The 43-year-old has previously floated the thought of running for the presidency. During the MTV Video Music Awards in 2015, West said “in 2020 I even have decided to run president” – but many took the statement with a pinch of salt after West admitted he had smoked the weed before addressing the gang. Last year, West set 2024 because the year he’d run the presidency.
West is an outspoken supporter of Trump and has previously sported the “Make America Great Again” cap, which he said made him desire “Superman.”
Kanye didn’t cast a choice the 2016 election, but in an interview with GQ magazine earlier this year, he signaled he’s voting for Trump within the fall – though that’s up within the air now that he joined the fray of presidential hopefuls.
Why West was criticized?
West was criticized last week after declaring that: “I am so pleased with my beautiful wife Kim Kardashian West for officially becoming a billionaire.” She had sold a stake in her beauty brand for $200 m. But he also earned praise for releasing one about racism and religion.
If he ran, West would follow during a long tradition of independent or third-party campaigns challenging the Democratic and Republican stranglehold. In 1992, Ross Perot, an eccentric Texan billionaire, took 19% of the total vote. In 2000, Ralph Nader’s Green Party took 3% of the votes but was widely blamed for costing Democrat Gore the presidency.
