Following the release of the Vivo T1 5G a few weeks ago, Vivo has now released another phone aimed at the entry-level market. The Vivo Y15s costs Rs. 10,990 and competes with the Motorola Moto E40, Realme Narzo 20, and Redmi 9 Power. However, unlike the other devices in this category, which run a full-fledged version of Android 11, the Y15s runs a watered-down version of Android 11 Go on top of which is a version of bespoke FunTouch OS 11.1. It appears that the phone is not very powerful.
The phone boasts a fingerprint sensor on the side, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 10W charging capabilities. It has a bigger aspect ratio HD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. The smartphone’s front face sports a water-drop-shaped notch for the front camera. The Y15s is 163.99675.28.28mm in length and weighs just 179 grammes.
The Vivo Y15s is available in Wave Green and Mystic Blue colours and costs SGD 179 (about Rs. 10,000) in Singapore. It is already available through Vivo and participating shops around the country.
On the rear, the Vivo Y15s has a dual-camera configuration with a 13-megapixel primary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 2-megapixel macro camera with a 4cm focal length and an LED light. Pano, Face Beauty, Live Photo, Time-Lapse, and more modes are available on the camera.
The device is powered by an octa-core Helio P35 chipset, which is combined with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The gadget also supports microSD cards for additional storage expansion.
The Vivo Y15s isn’t a particularly appealing smartphone for the price it commands. In reality, the Moto E40, which retails for Rs. 9,999, provides a far greater smartphone experience. The more powerful Unisoc T700 microprocessor is included, as is decent battery life, a 90Hz HD+ LCD, an IP52 water resistance rating, and a much superior 48MP primary camera. Even at Rs. 11,499, the Redmi 9 Power has a larger 6000mAh battery, FHD+ LCD, 18W fast charging, 48MP quad cameras, dual speakers, and a Snapdragon 662 CPU.
