Vinayak Damodar Savarkar: 55th death anniversary of freedom fighter, nationwide salutes

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born on May 28, 1883, in Bhagur village in Nashik district, Maharashtra. Veer Savarkar died on 26 February 1966 in Mumbai (then Bombay). He was a nationalist and one of the most important people of the Hindu Mahasabha.

Veer Savarkar was a freedom fighter, politician, lawyer, writer, social reformer and promoter of Hindutva ideology. He got the nickname ‘Veer’ at the age of 12 after doing his work of bravery. He also wrote a book titled ‘The Indian War of Independence, 1857’ in the year 1909. In the book, he stated that the Indian Revolt of 1857 was the first expression of the Indian mass rebellion against British colonial rule.

Today, across the country, reverence was paid to Veer Savarkar on his death anniversary. Vice President of the country Venkaiah Naidu tweeted.

Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered Savarkar. Shah said in tweeting, ‘Freedom warrior Savarkar Ji, reflecting renunciation, austerity and nationalism, on one hand, raised the freedom of India among the many tortured for the independence of India and on the other, appeasement in social evils and politics like untouchability Strongly opposed. Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also tweeted paying tribute to Savarkar’s death anniversary. He wrote, “My tribute to the great Indian freedom fighter and activist Mr Vinayak Damodar Savarkar Ji on his death anniversary.”

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has also tweeted paying tribute. He wrote, ‘Humble tribute to the death anniversary of Veer Savarkar, son of Mother Bharati!’

India’s voice Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar paid tribute to the late patriot and freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar from her Instagram handle, calling her Veer Savarkar. He wrote the caption, “Today is the death anniversary of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. We all bow down to Mangeshkar once and for all.”
