US working on framework with India to share confidential defense technology.

After approving the sale of armed donations, the US is now working on the framework of sharing important military technology and confidential information with India. This system will be prepared in such a way that American defense companies can transfer important technology under the joint venture to Indian private sector. According to official sources, this framework will mention specific measures to ensure the security of sensitive technologies and confidential information shared with Indian companies.

At present, there is no provision to share the confidential defense information of US companies with the Indian private sector. Although the two countries have favored joint development of the important military platforms. Sources said that both the countries are working on a specific framework for sharing important military technologies.

He said that there will be clarity on issues related to accountability, intellectual property rights and industrial security through the Government to Government Framework. Significantly, the American defense industry wants to outline the agreement with private sector Indian defense companies to build military hardware and platforms.




America’s biggest defense companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin have stuck to the billions of dollars in agreement with India. The US has offered to build some major military platforms in India in joint venture with Indian companies.

One official said that many American companies are looking at mega projects in India but they are not confident about the security of important technology to be shared with the Indian private sector.

Significantly, under the Strategic Partnership model, private firms can partner with foreign companies and create military platforms such as submarine and fighter aircraft in India. India and the United States defense ties are strong and the two countries have expressed their commitment to further this. In June 2016, the US gave India status as a ‘Major Defense Partner’.
