Washington, Given the growing contact between the Indian and Pacific oceans, the Trump Administration has changed the name of the US Pacific Command on Thursday to the US Indo-Pacific Command. This step also reflects the increasing importance of the Indian Ocean in American strategic thinking.

The United States Pacific Command or PACOM formed after World War II will now be known as the Indian-Pacific Command. Immediately after coming to power, the Trump administration changed the name of Asia Pacific to India-Pacific and gave India a special status in the region.

US Defense Secretary Jim Matiss announced this effect during the Change of War ceremonies at Joint Base Pearl Harbor. During the program, Admiral Phil Davidson replaced Harry Harris as Commander of the US Hind-Pacific Command or Hind PACOM.
