Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait have banned the import of frozen and processed fruits and vegetables of Kerala in view of the outbreak of deadly Nipah virus. According to the Monday report of ‘Gulf News’, Nipah virus can cause a dangerous swelling of the brain, and its general symptoms are not different from symptoms like fever, cough, headache, shortness of breath and confusion.
On May 29, Saudi Arabia, Emirates (UAE) had banned goods imported from Kerala. UAE officials had said that entry of 100 tonnes of fruits and vegetables to be imported from Kerala has been banned. After this, Kuwait and Bahrain also applied this ban on May 30.
UAE healthcare provider VPS Healthcare has sent the medical supplies to the aircraft to fight the Kerala government. A total of 18 cases of this virus have been reported in Kerala.
