Tremors from the earthquake were felt throughout Delhi-NCR. The shaking persisted for a few seconds. The National Centre for Seismology said in a tweet that the 5.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal caused tremors throughout the capital area.
The NCS said, “Earthquake of Magnitude:5.8, Occurred on 24-01-2023, 14:28:31 IST, Lat: 29.41 & Long: 81.68, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nepal.”
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake, according to Monika Dahal, director of the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, was felt in more rural portions of western Nepal. Some areas of the neighboring country of India were also affected. Three earthquakes struck Western Nepal in short succession in December 2022. Videos of internet users tweeting about the earthquake swamped social media.
This happened more than 20 days after the national capital region experienced tremors. A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region on January 5.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 occurred in the Delhi-NCR area on January 1. On January 1, at 1:19 am, an earthquake struck northwest of Jhajjar in Haryana. The earthquake occurred 5 kilometers below the surface of the earth.
A devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal in April 2015 left about 9,000 people dead and nearly 22,000 injured. Over 800,000 homes and school buildings were also damaged.
