Good news for passengers traveling from the metro. The government is soon going to bring a smart card which can be used in all the metro cities. This smart card will only be used for limited trips. For the use of Metro Card in any other city, passengers will have to charge only after visiting their card counter.
Work on the One Nation One Card Scheme
The Central Government has launched the One Nation One Card scheme a few days ago. Through this card any transportation facility can be used in the country. However, to issue these cards, the KYC process will be mandatory and it will be available from different banks. The metro card will be like a credit card and debit card in a way.
Card can be launched in 6 months
The card can be launched in the next 6 months. A senior official associated with the One Nation One Card project said, “Those people who have come to India for a short time or their stay in a city are very short, they will not be able to use the One Nation One card. Without completing the KYC procedure, One Nation One Card will not be issued for them. An alternative card is being arranged for such people for which passport and Aadhaar card will be required. Foreign citizens will have to submit a copy of passport as an identity card.
Giving details of the process, a senior official said, “The card will need to be upgraded on different metro networks because the fares of different metro networks are different.” Ministry of Urban Development is working on One Nation One Card and soon it will start work on specification. The special unit CDAC of Electronics Department is working on it.
