Not only is Spider-Man: No Way Home shattering box office records, but it has also earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The new Marvel picture reintroduced actors from past Spider-Man film franchises, including Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe, who starred in the first Spider-Man. The two actors now have the longest careers as live-action Marvel characters after reprising their roles in what is technically a continuation of their original series.
Green Goblin, Doctor Otto Octavious, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard were played by Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans, respectively.
No surprise, the film has been a box office juggernaut, ranking as the sixth most grossing picture of all time globally. To date, No Way Home has grossed $1.69 billion.
Happy Hogan, played by Jon Favreau, is presently the longest-serving character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He originally played the part in Iron Man in 2008, and he most recently starred in No Way Home in 2021. When the Secret Invasion series premieres on Disney+, Samuel L. Jackson will surpass Favreau.
Tobey Maguire’s last appearance as Peter Parker was in Spider-Man 3 before No Way Home. In a recent interview with fellow Spider-Man actors Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield, the actor discussed what it was like to return to the character.
Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe have now set individual Guinness World Records for having the longest career as a live-action Marvel character, courtesy of the Jon Watts directed the film. Both actors made their Marvel debut in 2002’s Spider-Man, directed by Sam Raimi.
The two actors have been playing Peter Parker and Norman Osborn for 19 years and 225 days, thanks to No Way Home. They broke the previous record set by Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, who played Wolverine and Professor X, respectively, in the 2000 film X-Men and finished their voyage together in 2017 with Logan. For 16 years and 232 days, Jackman and Stewart played the part.
Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, and Marisa Tomei star in No Way Home, which was written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
