
Sikh Marriage Act passed in Punjab province of Pakistan.
Lahore,The Punjab Sikh Anand Karaj’s Marriage Act, 2017, was passed unanimously on Wednesday in the Punjab assembly of Punjab province. From this, Sikh marriage has got legal recognition in the province. According to the newspaper ‘Dawn’, this act was presented to the provincial minister Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora in 2017, which was approved by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif last week.
This act will be implemented as soon as the Governor gets the approval. According to the law, Sikh marriage will be fulfilled according to the religious customs described in Sikh scripture, Guru Granth Sahib. After this, a validity letter will be issued by the Registrar appointed by the Punjab province. While presenting the bill in the House, Arora said that after passing the law, Pakistan will become the only country in the world which registers Sikh marriage. So far, Sikh marriage figures were handled by gurudwaras.
After the implementation of this Act, Sikhs living in Pakistan will now be able to get their marriage registered under it.
