Review: ‘Rain on Me’ by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, bop or flop?

Entertainment Music Videos

Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, two of the most loved singers, tower over the pop world with their new collaboration, “Rain on Me”, released recently, serves as the second single from the album ‘Chromatica’, out on the 29th of May 2020.

The track is 3 minutes and 2 seconds of pop-disco heaven that invites listeners to get up, forget their worries, and shake their personal struggles away. “Rain on Me” draws its power from two strong women connecting on an emotional level.
“Rain on Me” is a perfect mix of 90’s pop music and great vocals. The lyrics are touching. In this song, the singers try to see the positive side of being rained down, where rain means sadness and despair. At least they are alive, despite being wet! In these depressing times under the COVID-19 lockdown, this is the kind of motivation we all need.

The most beautiful part about this song is that it comes from two strong and lovely women. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande have both been in depths of trauma, but have now emerged from the darkness. In 2014, Gaga revealed that she was raped at the age of 19 and later developed PTSD. Eventually, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic illness that causes extreme fatigue and body ache and predominantly affects women. Grande’s grief has been more public:
At the Manchester stop of her ‘Dangerous woman’ tour in 2017, a homemade bomb killed 22 people. A year later, her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller died of accidental overdose.

Though both of these powerhouse divas explored healing on their own, their long-awaited collaboration “Rain on Me” unlocks newfound strength.
This song is about acceptance, no matter how hard things get, one should never give up or lose hope, because there is always a positive aspect left in it. When you feel like everything is bad, when you’re running out of all the things you could perceive as being positive, you could just say “at least I’m alive”. That is the best gift of all.
