The Little Mermaid was originally made as an animated movie in 1989 with a 16-year-old mermaid who dreamed about life on land. While observing the life on land, one fine day, she falls in love with a human prince named Eric. In order to get close to him, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to become a human being for three whole days. This is a story of young Ariel, keeping the end of her deal and sacrificing for her human lover, Prince Eric.

I’m sure a lot of us are supremely excited to see what Disney is bringing to us now after the grand success of the remake of The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.

Who is the star cast?

Disney has already cast Halle Bailey as the lead for The Little Mermaid Remake.

Halle Bailey is a 19-year-old part of Chloe X Halle which is a musical duo with her sister. She has one of the most essential roles required to play Ariel- a melodious voice! Director of The Little Mermaid Remake Rob Marshall agreed when he said that she was cast after an extensive search. He says, “It was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance- plus a glorious singing voice- all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

Harry Styles was offered the role of Prince Eric which he turned down but there are certain rumors and silent prayers that he has actually accepted the role. The role finally went to Jonah Hauer- King who starred in “Little Women” and “World on Fire.”

Further, Melissa McCarthy, an Oscar Nominee is cast for the role of the Sea Witch Ursula along with Awkwafina from Ocean’s 8 has agreed to play Ariel’s seagull friend, Scuttle.

Flounder the fish is to be played by Jacob Tremblay who won the Best Young Actor at 21st Annual Critics’ Choice Award for his role in the movie “The Room.” King Triton is likely to be taken by Javier Bardem.

The soundtrack is to include many beloved songs from the original movie by the original composer’s Alan Menken and Howard Ashman!
