Former Pakistan cricket team captain and well-known commentator Rameez Raja has made fun of the ODI series being played between Sri Lanka and India. He says that after watching the first ODI of both the teams, it felt as if he was watching the match of ‘university and school team’.
The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka was played on 18 July at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Team India won by 7 wickets in a one-sided game. Sri Lanka set a target of 263 runs in front of India in the match. It was achieved by Dhawan and Co in 36.4 overs.
After this match, Rameez Raja criticized the Sri Lankan cricket team a lot. He said on his YouTube channel, “This match between India and Sri Lanka felt as if it was a match between the university team and the school team. There was a big difference in ability, strategy to implement, talent and ability to understand the game. It is a very challenging situation for Sri Lanka Cricket, as they are playing at home. He made a flat pitch for the first ODI and still could make an average score.
The former Pakistani captain said about Sri Lanka’s batting, “The way Sri Lanka has played against spin. It seemed that they did not know how to play spin. If seen in the past, Sri Lankan batsmen used to play spinners well. But the current players are not seen doing so. He was confused after getting the start.
The Sri Lankan batsmen were disappointed in the first match. At one point the team’s score was two for 85 in a game of 16.1 overs and by the end of 40 overs, the team’s score was six wickets for 186. Avishka Fernando (33), Minod Bhanuka (27), Bhanuka Rajapakse (24), Charith Aslanka (38) and Dasun Shanaka (39) got their starts but could not score big.
