Putin was born on 7 October 1952 in Leningrad (now Petersburg).
He studied law and joined the intelligence agency KGB.
In the then communist East Germany, he worked as a detective. During that time his detective friends got high positions in Putin’s reign.
In the 1990s, he was the main ally of St. Petersburg Mayor Anatoly Sobchak. Anatoli taught them the law.
In 1997 he came to the Kremlin during the Boris Yeltsin period and he was made the head of the Federal Security
Service. After that he was made the Prime Minister.
In 1999, Yeltsin resigned on New Year’s Eve and named Putin the executive president.
Putin easily won in the March 2000 presidential elections.
After winning the 2004 general elections, he got a second term.
Under the Russian constitution, for the third time the claim of becoming president is restricted. That’s why he became the Prime Minister in the third term.
After winning the general elections in 2012, he got the third term of the President.
