Everyone wants a glow up this quarantine but don’t know where to start from. Consider this as a positive sign that you should get started. Coming from someone who is very very particular about her skin, believe you me homemade products are the best. No side effects. Inexpensive. And the best part is you know what ingredients are in it, so you’re safe from allergies. Then why waste thousands of bucks on expensive skincare products when all you need is the magic ingredient – Shea Butter. So I’m going to share with you my favourite moisturizing lotion recipe that everyone can try out. Mission glow up 2020 is on

• All you need is :

½ cup almond oil (or any other liquid oil, preferably jojoba oil)
¼ cup coconut oil (do not skip this)
¼ cup beeswax (you can also use Vaseline)
1 tsp or 2 capsules of vitamin E oil (optional)
2 tbsp shea butter (or cocoa butter, optional)
essential oils (optional)
vanilla extract (optional)

– You can skip the ingredients that say ‘optional’ in bracket. But if you have them, then it’s great.

• Method :

1) So first, combine all the oils mentioned. By this I mean, the almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and shea or cocoa butter if you’re using that, in a double boiler or a glass bowl on top of a simmering pan of water, just like how you melt chocolate. It’s the same process.

2) Grab your spatula and stir the mixture occasionally as the ingredients melt.

3) In like 5 minutes you’ll see that all the ingredients have melted completely, now it’s time to add the vitamin E oil and the essential oils or scents like vanilla, this is optional and it’s on you to decide the fragrance you wish to have.

4) Pour this luxurious mixture into a glass jar or tin for storage. Or any small container for that matter. Oh and before I forget, don’t use a lotion pump as this is comparatively thicker in consistency.

5) There are no special application instructions. You can just use it as you would use your regular lotion. This lotion is like super-moisturizing and more oily than the other water-based lotions so a little quantity would be just fine. It also has a longer shelf life as compared to most homemade moisturizing lotion recipes online. Also, you have to use it within 6 months for best moisturizing benefits.
