Odia New Year 2022: The Odia New Year begins on ‘Pana Sankranti’ or ‘Maha Bishuba Sankranti,’ with the release of a new Panjika, which is an Almanack containing Hindu religious events, dates, and forecasts for the next year (Odia New Year 2022).
From Mesha Sankranti to Mina Sankranti, the Panjika is constructed according to the solar calendar and includes auspicious dates, timings, dawn and sunset times, stars and their motions, and so on.
People drink pana, a sweet-sour drink prepared with bael (wood apple), fruits, and sugar, to welcome the New Year. On the event, which is also known as Lord Hanuman’s birth anniversary, devotees hold special puja.
After worshipping Lord Hanuman at Puri, traditional wrestlers emerge from the Jaga Ghara, Akhadas (training houses), and gymnasiums to demonstrate their wrestling talents.
On this day, devotees swarm temples around the state and bathe in rivers or significant pilgrimage sites.
