
Mumbai Footover Bridge Incident: Motorman’s smart sense saved hundreds life.
Mumbai, During a foot overbridge crash at the Andheri station in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, the motorman of the local train appeared as an angel for hundreds of passengers. It is being told that the accident could have been even more frightening, if the locals’ motorman Chandrakant Sawant, who was passing through there, had not figured out the emergency breaks. This train was going from Borivali to Churchgate. The train had just gone ahead from Andheri that Motorman saw the footover bridge dropping.
Motorman Sawant told that when he saw that the debris of Footover Bridge was falling, he imposed Emergency Brakes. Hundreds of people traveling in this train survived childhood. Chandrakant has been working in Railways for 27 years.
Ravindra Bhakar, Chief Public Relations Officer of West Railway said that overhead equipments have been damaged and a team of engineers has been working to fix this. He said, “One part of the footover bridge has collapsed, which has disrupted all the services of the Western Railway. Our officials have reached the spot and are taking stock of the situation. ” An official of the Disaster Management Unit said that firefighters and other agencies have been involved in cleaning debris.
The official said, “At around 7:30 in the morning, the footover bridge of East West Railway fell to Andheri East Station. firefighters, Mumbai Police and Ward staff have reached the spot. ‘ He said that it seems that due to heavy rains the cracks in the footover bridge fell, after which the bridge collapsed later. He told that there was no train going down from the bottom. Meanwhile, due to the disruption of the suburban railway services of Western Railway, the city has remained inaccessible.
