Mars: Will it take 20-30 years to send a manned mission to Mars?
Many countries of the world are preparing to send humans to Mars. In this, America and China have also openly announced it. At the same time, Elon Musk from the private sector is also working on a plan to settle on Mars. For this, he has even announced his ambitious timeline. But there are many such challenges to go to Mars, which have not been solved. Meanwhile, a scientist claims that it will take 20 to 30 years for human missions to reach Mars.
Many challenges remain
The picture of going to Mars was started only when humans took their first steps on the Moon. The US space agency NASA has expressed its intention to send a manned mission to Mars by 2033, while China has also set a similar deadline. Both NASA and China’s rovers are also doing some experiments on Mars in this regard. At the same time, some problems regarding going to Mars have been resolved, so many challenges are yet to be resolved, which is not even certain when it will happen.
Changing perceptions
So far the biggest challenge has been the cost of going to Mars. Apart from this, there are many practical problems as well. With some private and commercial efforts, reusable rockets have come into existence, and at the same time the field of space tourism has opened up. Due to this, there has also been a change in perceptions of Mars.
It’s a start but it will take time to reach Mars
According to the report of NewsTalk, Dr. Philip Metzger, a planetary scientist at the Florida Space Institute, says, “I think that 20 years will be the beginning, I will start to consider it possible to happen here. I don’t think we will get there before the next 20 years. It may even take 30 years. But I think we have moved in that direction.”
A lot of progress is being made
Talking about the current progress, Metzger pointed out that many institutions are focusing on going to Mars, there has been tremendous development in technology. Space flight prices are also coming down. Further missions to Mars will suggest solutions to many problems, but solutions to some problems, such as how to use solar energy, will not work properly on Mars.
How long will it take to reach Mars
Where research work on Mars has increased rapidly in recent years. Metzger believes that there is still a distance of 20 to 30 years for a human expedition to reach Mars. There are still many challenges that may take time to resolve. These problems range from small to very large. Metzger has also shed light on some of these problems.
Dust and soil problem
Metzger explains that a major problem in going to Mars will come from problems for Mars’ terrain and atmosphere due to dust and soil. The dust just accumulated over geological timescales so that it is everywhere, and it is also rough, so it will also spoil the technology. But soil will create more problems than dust. Which will create a challenge in landing.
What will happen in landing
The problem in a landing will be the rocket exhaust, that is, the fire emanating from the rocket. The large exhaust will have to be chosen according to the gravity of Mars. But the problem with this would be that it would become a very effective digging tool. Along with this, he will also spread soil along with dust everywhere, which will be scattered at a very high speed. Which will damage the bottom of the rocket along with your outpost. In this, 50 types of technical solutions are being worked on.
Metzger says it will take decades to build an effective launching pad and landing site. In this, large parts working from other or automated technology will have to be developed. It will take a lot of missions for this. Dr. Metzger says that although the technology of the launching pad is also being worked on, we will not be able to reach there, and eventually, we will have to resort to the launching pad itself, on which work has not started yet.
