Mangalamkunnu Karna, the emperor of the heights of Poorapparambu, bowed down. He was 57 years old. He was born in 1963 in Bihar. Karnan’s height was famous. After the Guruvayoor Devaswom, the Mangalamkunnu family has the largest number of elephants. Mangalamkunnu Ganapati, Mangalamkunnu Karnan and Mangalamkunnu Ayyappan are the three most famous figures in the family. Though Bihari, Karna is as characteristic as a native elephant.


In 1989, Karna was acquired by Nanu Ezhuthachan Group from Chapra in Bihar. The Mangalamkunnu family bought Karna in 2000. Karnan had won the competition for the title at the Chakkumarassery Sreekumara Ganapati Temple in North Paravur for 9 consecutive years. He was the winner of the top level competitions held all over Kerala. Karnan has also won the Ithithanam yard festival. Karnan has appeared in movies and commercials.

Karnan’s specialty is to stand proudly from the beginning of the ascent to the descent. This is what makes Karna different even when he is standing with taller elephants. Karna can be easily identified by his body length. Karna’s stalk and tail are more prominent than the other stalks on the stem. The height from the seat is 302 cm.


He was perfectly calm even during the drinking season. Madappatkalam is after the intermission. Even at this point, the owners say, Karnan is not a bully. Karnan will recognize even the vehicles at Mangalamkunnu Anatharavat. When they see the family, they make a special noise and come closer until they have something to eat.
