Kedarnath-Hemkund ropeway project: The Centre has launched a massive Rs 1,800-crore spiritual pitch in poll-bound Uttarakhand by asking bidders for building daunting Kedarnath-Hemkund ropeway project, just days after the election mannequin code of conduct went into effect.
During his November 5 visit to Kedarnath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that construction on cable automobile ropeways to the two holy temples will begin soon.
“A project has also been started so that the trustworthy may get to Kedarnath Ji through cable automobile. In addition, the holy Hemkund Sahib Ji may be nearby. During his visit to Kedarnath on November 5, the Prime Minister announced, “Preparations are underway to build a ropeway to allow a visit to Hemkund Sahib Ji.”
On January 7, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) requested private sector proposals for the building, operation, and maintenance of a cable car ropeway connecting Sonprayag and Kedarnath, as well as Govind Ghat and Hemkund Sahib. The ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath (Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath) will be created from the Gaudikund ropeway. At the same time, the line from Hemkund to Kedarnath will be made from Via Ghangaria (Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib). The 13-kilometer long Kedarnath-Sonprayag ropeway cost Rs 985 crore to build, while the 12.6-kilometer long Govind Ghat to Hemkund ropeway cost Rs 764 crore.
Therefore, Hemkund Sahib will only be able to go via cable car. In March, bids for both projects will be offered. Both initiatives will simplify ordinary people to visit these sacred sites. Hemkund Sahib bears great significance for Sikhs in the same manner that Kedarnath Dham contains special significance for Hindus. Currently, pilgrims must trek 16 kilometers from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham, which takes a whole day, but this trip will be cut in half thanks to a ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath.
The ropeways’ construction might take up to three years. “The authority (NHAI) has opted to continue the bidding procedure of for the selection of a private business as the Bidder to whom the Venture could be awarded,” the tender documents indicate.
