
Jerusalem controversy: India voted against the United States.
The United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution demanding the repeal of granting the status of Israel’s status to the US in Jerusalem.
The proposal states that any decision taken regarding the status of Jerusalem will be invalid and it should be canceled.
128 nations voted in favor of this non-binding resolution of the United Nations, while 35 countries remained absent. 9 countries have voted against the proposal.
India has also voted against the American vote in support of this proposal.
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to stop economic aid for countries who voted in support of the proposal.
Prior to the voting, Palestinian Foreign Minister had appealed to ‘blackmail and try to scare’.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he denies this outcome. He also called the United Nations ‘house of lies’.
Nine small countries with America
Against this proposal of the United Nations, the United States, Israel, Guatemala, Honduras, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Togo voted.
Countries that voted in favor of this proposal included four permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China, France, Russia and the UK. Also, significant American colleagues and Muslim countries also voted against this proposal.
Mexico and Canada were also involved in 35 countries that kept themselves separate from this poll.
