IPL Retention Updates: Lucknow and Ahmedabad will join the Indian Premier League in the upcoming season, bringing the total number of clubs to eight. Having new teams competing against the established ones will give a new level of intensity to the competition. Before the upcoming season, a massive auction will be held to give the new franchise a better shot at fielding a strong team. The old eight franchises face a difficult challenge before the auction: retaining their players. Each team is allowed to keep a maximum of four players. Only three Indians and two overseas cricketers are allowed to be retained before the sale.

The BCCI has set a 30 November 2021 for all franchises to submit a list of retained players.

IPL Retention Updates: Player Retention Costs

Assuming all four retention options are used, the total compensation for the four players would be INR 42 Crores, which would cost the franchise a lot of money. INR 16 Crores, INR 12 Crores, INR 8 Crores, and a total of INR 6 Crores will be paid to each of the four players that are selected.

With three retained players, INR 33 crores will be subtracted from the total purse of the squad. The purse will then total INR 33 Crores. INR 15 Crores for the first player, INR 11 Crores for the second player, and INR 7 Crores for the third.

First and second-choice players will receive INR 14 and 10 Crores, respectively, if they are retained by the franchise. When only one player is retained, the franchisee will receive INR 14 Crores.
