On the 26th of July 2020, Sunday, a 44-year-old Kerala man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing his wife to death in broad daylight at the parking lot of her office in Dubai because he suspected her of infidelity.
The court heard that the victim, Vidhya Chandran, 40, a mother of two, was stabbed to death by her husband, Ugesh C S, on the 9th of September 2019.
Apparently, Vidhya was supposed to fly home, that is to Kerala, with her children that night to celebrate Onam, that’s a festival in South India.
When asked, Vidhya’s family said that her husband had been harassing her for several years, Ugesh told police that he was suspicious that she was cheating on him by having an affair with another man.
According to official police records, the victim’s manager testified that he had called her, but she didn’t answer his calls. He then asked an employee to look for her. When the employee went outside, he saw Vidhya covered in blood and was lying motionless.
A policeman later said, “The defendant said that he had received a text message from his wife’s manager, alerting him that his wife was in a relationship with another man.
The defendant claimed that he was talking to the manager about the message as he too was suspicious of her behavior. When his wife came, she got angry with her husband because he had embarrassed her in front of the manager.” Apparently, Vidhya was stabbed three times after a heated argument between her and her husband.
A friend of Vidhya in UAE said that she struggled all her life. The only reason she was still staying strong was only for her daughters. She also said that Vidhya used to survive on biscuits to send money home.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to life in jail, to be followed by deportation.
