Pakistan releases 147 Indian fishermen closed in Karachi jail on Sunday Eight months ago, they were arrested for fishing in Pakistani waters. According to the newspaper Dawn, police in Islamabad confirmed the release of these fishermen under goodwill.

These fishermen will be taken to Lahore and will be handed over to the Indian authorities on the Wagah border on Monday. Their travel expenses will be borne by the NGO, the Eidi Foundation. In December, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Muhammad Faizal was released after the announcement to release about 300 Indian fishermen in two phases till January 8.

Earlier on December 28, 145 Indian fishermen were released. All of them were also arrested for fishing in the Pak Water area. According to Hassan Sahhto, Karachi’s Malir Jail, there are still 262 Indian fishermen in jail. Fishermen of India and Pakistan are often arrested for illegally fishing in each other’s water area.
