A journey by foot or a helicopter

Walking is not necessary to reach the temple of Mata Vaishno Devi. You can also ride a horse, mule, pattu or palanquin, which are easily available from Katra to the temple. Apart from this, there is also a regular helicopter service between Katra and Satara. From the rooftop terrace you will have to travel only 2.5 kilometers.
The journey has become a little easier
Despite this difficult journey, about 10 million pilgrims arrive to visit Vaishno Devi every year. How long will it take to complete the journey depends on the weather there, the crowd and your speed. In the last several years, many facilities have been added to Vaishno Devi’s journey and the journey has become easy. The mountain has been cut and made a plain path. Throughout the climb, there is a system of shades, vegetarian food, water for everything to stay in place, and it is going on for twenty four hours.
Katra is the base camp of Vaishno Devi
Katra, a small town of Jammu works as the base camp of Vaishno Devi, which is 50 km from Jammu. Before starting the journey, registration is necessary because on the basis of the registration slip, it is possible to visit the temple. There are many points between Katra and Bhavan, which include Banganga, Charpaduka, Indraprastha, Ardhkunwari, Garbajoon, Himkoti, Sanjhi Chhat and Bhairo Mandir, but the mid-point of the journey is half-way. There is also the temple of Mata where people wait for the next 6 kms after visiting the mata. In the same way, on 19 May 2018, the new path has been inaugurated between Banganga and the Ardhkunwari so that the crowd of devotees can be reduced on the way to the existing 6 kms.
When will Vaishno Devi go?
However, the journey of Vaishno Devi is open all year and can be visited anytime, but due to the peak season between May to June and Navaratri (March to April and September to October), there is a tremendous crowd of devotees. Apart from this, in the rainy season, travel should be avoided in July-August as climbing becomes difficult due to slippery on the travel route. Apart from this, there is tremendous cold between December and January.
How did Vaishno Devi reach?
Air Way – Ranibagh Airport of Jammu is the nearest airport to Vaishno Devi. Through the road from Jammu, the base camp can be reached by Vaishno Devi, which is about 50 kilometers away. Bus and taxi service is easily available between Jammu and Katra.
Rail: The nearest railway station is Jammu and Katra. Connected through the main railway stations across the country through the Jammu rail route. Apart from this, the base camp Katra of Vaishno Devi has also become a railway station. Located on the Jammu-Udhampur Rail Route, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station, which started in the year 2014. Apart from Delhi, many other cities also have direct trains. If you want, you can come straight from the train till Katra and then from there you can start traveling on foot to the mother’s court.
The road is connected through the Jammu road route from different parts of the country and can be reached via Katra by road, through Jammu, and then from there the climb of Trikuta hills.
Keep these things together
While the base camp Katra is at an altitude of 2 thousand 500 feet above the sea level, the temple of Vaishno Devi is seen at a height of 5,200 feet above sea level, so there is a great difference in the temperature of these two places. If you are traveling in a monsoon, keep the raincoat or umbrella inevitable. Do not forget to keep lots of woolen cloths, jackets, hats and gloves in the winter season. However, during the journey, blankets are also needed on the way. Wear comfortable shoes during climbing. Apart from this, you can keep warm hot clothes in the summer season as it may be possible to reach the building if the weather changes.
