Happiness is the universal feeling we all aspire to experience more of, yet, we can be an angry, moody, depressed bunch, can’t we? The science of happiness tells us that being happy is, indeed, a choice. But if you’re still struggling to make lemonade when life gives you lemons, maybe you just need a little swift-kick-in-the-pants motivation. Or better instead, if life gives you lemons just squeeze them into the eyes of people who hurt you. I’m kidding. Here are 6 reasons why you need to be happy!

• The world needs more happy people.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where there there is a lot of problems like drought, war, famine, poverty, and destruction. But here’s the thing: good always trumps evil, light is more powerful than darkness. The actions of a happy person can create a ripple effect that can literally change the world. So, be the change you wish to create. Choose happiness.

• The lives of people who love you are dependent upon you.

Now think about the most important people in your life. Chance are, you’d do any throw these folks, right? If you’re looking for a reason to be happy, this is the place to start. No matter how worse life gets, there are people who’d still love you unconditionally. Would you be able to see them upset and miserable? I would do anything to make them smile, but I can’t do that by being sad myself. So cheer up and show people you love them!

• Life could change dramatically at a moment’s notice.
The one thing about life is that life is unpredictable. You cannot expect what will come next. There are chances someone may sleep and not get up the next day. Or maybe lose their job. You never know what may happen. So don’t wait until tomorrow to be happy. Choose happiness today and enjoy every single moment you have.

• Happy people are healthier

Research shows a direct correlation between health and happiness. Happy people tend to take better care of themselves by exercising more and eating healthier than unhappy people.

• Happy people have better relationships.

In most surveys, married people are comparatively happier than unmarried people. That doesn’t mean you need to be married to attain happiness. What it means is when you choose to be happy, you tend to form better relationships with others. You tend to make people around you happy by sharing your love and happiness.

• Happy people are more productive

If you’re still looking for another reason to be happy, here’s one – So let’s begin this one with a question. Who do you think gets more accomplished in an average day? The person who is happy, optimistic driven, or the person who spends all his time and energy whining and complaining and venting about how his/her life isn’t fair? Happy people, in general, are more productive and are more likely to accomplish their goals and desires than unhappy people.

If you’re still not convinced, just be grateful for the little things in your life. Be happy you are alive, you have a roof over your head, you have food to eat and water to drink. Just find a reason for happiness. Let little things like a smile from a toddler, a ‘tail-wag’ by a dog, a text from a friend, etc make you happy. Life is like ice cream, enjoy before it melts.
