On Michael Jackson’s birthday in 1999, Farah Khan posted an unreleased photo of him. The choreographer regarded him as her “guru” and said she had first met him in New York more than twenty years prior. Michael Jackson, an American singer, songwriter, and dancer was born on August 29, 1958, and he died on June 25, 2009.

Farah Khan wished her mentor, Michael Jackson, a happy birthday on Instagram. In the black-and-white photo, Farah can be seen posing with Michael Jackson. She captioned it, “My guru.. turning point of my life happened when i saw Thriller.. got to meet him in NY 1999.. still to get over that experience.. happy birthday #michealjackson ..#inspiration #kingofpop.

Farah’s photo left a lot of fans in awe. In 2009, Michael Jackson passed away from a cardiac arrest brought on by a medication overdose.

With the 1992 film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Farah Khan made her acting and choreography debut in Hindi cinema. She has so far choreographed over a hundred songs for over 80 different movies. According to a quote from Farah Khan in a PTI interview, “I officially had no training in dance and whatever I learnt was from watching Michael Jackson by watching his videos, especially Thriller over and over again. I consider him as my guru.”

Farah Khan choreographed Tamil-language songs for international projects like Marigold: An Adventure in India, Perhaps Love, and Kung Fu Yoga. Her first film, Main Hoon Na, was released in 2004. For the song Idhar Chala Main Udhar Chala, she was awarded the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Choreography (Koi…Mil Gaya). Additionally, she has received Filmfare Awards for the songs Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil Se..), Ek Pal Ka Jeena (Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai), Woh Ladki Hai Kahan (Dil Chahta Hai), and Dhol Bajne Laga (Virasat).
