Jakarta: High intensity earthquake of 6.5 magnitude was felt on Indonesia’s main Java island. One person died in the earthquake, and there was panic among the people in the capital, Jakarta. Officials said that there are no signs of tsunami, but they have issued warnings after the earthquake. Earthquake shocks were felt in the coastal area about 300 kilometers from the capital yesterday. National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Suitopo Purbo Nugroho said 62-year-old man who was stranded in the rubble of a house collapsed in Kaimis area of West Java died.
At least five other people are reported to have been injured in this island. Officials are estimating the damage done by earthquake. The earthquake came earlier than midnight on local time. According to the American Geological Survey, the center of the earthquake was in the depth of 91 kilometers from the ground in the southeast east of the coastal city Kipatuzah.
