Ditch the chemicals. Here are 5 ways you can color your hair naturally at home itself!

Beauty Lifestyle

We can all agree that black hair is now a little boring. We all have wished to color our hair at least once in our lives. Most of us don’t color our hair because of the chemicals present in the hair dye. So here’s a hack to ditch all those harmful chemicals and go natural. Here I’m going to list down 5 ingredients to color your hair naturally at home itself.

• Coffee

Coffee works great if you’re looking to go darker, cover gray hairs, or add dimension to dark tresses. All you have to do is simply brew a strong coffee (espresso works well), let it cool in the refrigerator. Now mix one cup with a couple of dollops of leave-in conditioner and 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds. Apply on clean hair and allow to sit for about an hour. If you use apple cider vinegar to rinse, it will help the color last longer. You may need to repeat the process a couple of times to see noticeable results.

• Tea

Firstly you’ll have to highly concentrate on the tea. Use 3-5 teabags (or about the same amount in loose-leaf tea) for two cups of water. You can apply the cooled tea to hair alone, or mix with conditioner (as noted in the coffee recipe). Now leave it on for at least an hour—more if you want a darker color. Some even put on a cap and wear the tea overnight, then rinse the following morning.

• Herbs

This one shocked me as well, but trust me it works wonders on brunette or dark hair too. So, the herbs we’ll be using are rosemary, nettle, and sage. Simmer all of three herbs with water for at least 30 minutes. Now cool it, strain, and spray or brush through hair. Allow sitting for about an hour. You can also use the rinse daily after your shower. You need to be patient because it may take a few days to notice a difference.

• Henna

The most famous natural dye is henna. To make your own henna hair dye, mix about one cup of henna powder with 2 cups lemon juice. You can also add in a tablespoon of vinegar to help release the color. Allow sitting about 4-6 hours until it thickens. Apply to hair and comb through. Wrap your hair in plastic wrap and allow to sit 2-3 hours before rinsing. Use apple cider vinegar to rinse.

• Beetroot

Grate the beetroot and store the juice along in a cup. You can also mix in some coconut oil or olive oil to condition dry hair at the same time. Work it through, wrap hair, throw on a shower cap, and leave on for at least an hour. Rinse the juice out, and seal with an apple cider vinegar spray. If the color isn’t dark enough, repeat the next day. And tadaaa you’re done. Now you can happily flaunt your hair.
