Covid antiviral tablet: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Pfizer’s Paxlovid Covid-19 pill. This pill can be given to high-risk Corona infected 12 years of age or older. When the medicine was approved, Patrizia Cavazzoni, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said it was a big step in the fight against the pandemic. He said this will be the first time corona patients (Covid Infected) will be treated through the pill.
Earlier, American drug maker Pfizer had said that their Covid antiviral tablet is 90% effective against Corona. High-risk patients can be saved from death or hospitalization with this medicine. According to lab data, this drug has also proved effective on the new Omicron variant of Corona.
The US has also claimed a low risk of death among people battling Corona by making a tablet called Paxlovid. FDA scientist Patrizia Cavazzoni said that in many countries of the world, a tablet has been successfully prepared to treat the coronavirus, which has become a form of Covid. This is a historic step in the global fight against Corona.
Albert Borula, chief executive officer and president of Pfizer, said that 2,200 people being treated for Corona in the hospital tested this tablet, which showed unexpected results. Tablets can reduce the risk of death by up to 88 percent.
Will it work against Omicron?
The Omicron variant has just been revealed. That’s why the company has not tested it yet. However, in the midst of this, experts say that since the way the tablet works is slightly different from that of antibodies or vaccines, this tablet will be effective against any variant of Corona, not only Omicron.
Is there any danger in the Paxlovid pill?
The application of the Paxlovid tablet was reached before the committee of US Drug Controller USFDA. All the members of the committee have given permission for its use. In this regard, the committee has not seen many security-related threats. Paxlovid Tablet inhibits the activity of the protease. Protease is an enzyme that helps the virus replicate.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded a nearly six-fold increase in infections from Omicron in a week. Still, the prevalence of Omicron is even higher in most parts of the country. The Omicron variant is responsible for up to 90 percent of new infections in the New York region, Southeast, industrial Midwest, and Pacific Northwest.
