Commonwealth Games 2022: India, along with Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada, has demonstrated to be among the best-performing countries as the Commonwealth Games 2022 is near its midpoint. India wins a second gold in the Table Tennis final versus Singapore after winning the first gold in Lawn Bowls.
Since the multi-sport event began on July 28, 2022, the Indian team in the Commonwealth Games 2022 has brought honour to the nation. The CWG 2022 is now taking place in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where India’s top athletes have already assumed a prominent role. Weightlifters are among the few who have distinguished themselves, while the rest are headed towards fame.
The opening ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games took place on July 28 and the closing ceremony will take place on August 8, 2022. While the CWG 2022 began on July 28, the beginning of the different sporting events was delayed until July 29, 2022.
A total of 72 countries, including India, will compete in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Athletes will compete in 20 different sports at the CWG in 2022, and India has identified around 200 athletes or players who will compete in 16 different sports, including athletics, badminton, hockey, and cricket, to mention a few.
India has won more than 500 medals in the Commonwealth Games in its previous 18 participation, including 181 gold medals. In the 2010 CWG, which was held in India, they performed at their best. They were second overall in the 2010 CWG medal count with 101 medals earned. Look at the winners of the current game as India competes in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and aims to increase their medal total or even get near to their 2010 edition.
The men’s table tennis team from India defeated Singapore by a score of 3-1 in the championship, bringing their total number of medals won to 13. India has a chance to outperform South Africa with 5 days left in the competition as they are just one gold away. After losing against the Malaysian team by a score of 2-1 in the mixed badminton finals, Pullela Gopichand assists the badminton team in capturing the silver medal after more than 20 years. Vikas Thakur wins silver in the Men’s division 86 kg final weightlifting tournament as well.
Day 6’s three medal weightlifting events, four rounds of 16 Judo matchups, and five quarterfinal boxing battles might reveal some fresh faces. India is now performing the best out of all the Asian countries. Let’s wait till day 6 to see how things pan out.
