The mahaparva of Chhath Puja has started. Eating and bathing occur on the first day of this festival. On this day, the devotees get up early in the morning and take a dip in the river after which food is made. This festival has a very special significance in North India and especially in Bihar, UP, Jharkhand.

This festival is also known as Pratihara, Dala Chhath and Surya Shashthi. The first day of Chhath is started by taking a dip in the Nahai Khai holy Ganga or by sprinkling Ganga water and worshipping the Sun God, after which pumpkin vegetable and rice is prepared and eaten with chana dal. -A woman who is fasting should sleep on the ground till the end of Chhath Puja from the first day. Resting in bed is not considered auspicious.

– Women apply vermilion on their forehead and clean them.

-Meat and liquor should not be consumed even at home.

– Special attention has to be paid to cleanliness. It is forbidden to touch any object of worship with dirty hands.
