New Delhi, The main accused of the Punjab National Bank scam and diamond trader Neerav Modi want to seek political asylum in the UK, has been claimed in a UK newspaper report. According to the newspaper, officials from India and UK have confirmed Neerav to be in Britain. Nirav, the main accused in the PNB scam of more than Rs 13 thousand crore, is absconding since February.
Indian investigating agencies are looking for it. When news agency Reuters contacted the UK Home Ministry, he declined saying that the person does not disclose specific information.
Assuming the report, Neerav Modi has sought political asylum from the UK, citing political harassment. Apart from Neerav on Indian Government, there is pressure to bring Vijay Mallya, another businessman, who is in London.
After leaving Nirav Modi’s India , the Indian government canceled his passport and central investigation agencies issued a notice. Neerav Modi laid the foundation of the Globe Diamond Jewelery House in 2010 and named it after its name.
The police files charges against 25 people in May. Among them, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, former PNB chief Usha Anantasubramanian, two bank directors and three people of the company of Nirav Modi were also involved.
