According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission via videoconferencing today. A public health ID feature is one of the hallmarks of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. The announcement of the digital mission’s nationwide rollout will take place today at 11 a.m.

After being unveiled during the Independence Day festivities at the Red Fort on August 15, last year, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is tested in six union territories throughout the country. After a pilot test of the system in the union areas, the program will be announced. Private firms would be able to participate in the health ecosystem under this Mission.

Citizens can use the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’s health ID feature. The health ID for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will be linked to a health account that will store people’s digital health records. They can be accessed via computers or smartphones with the user’s authorization because they are uploaded online. In a country like India, where patient medical records are rarely comprehensive or readily available, the addition of a health ID could be quite beneficial. The start of the Mission coincides with the third anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY), popularly known as the AB PMJAY program.

The Mission will also feature two new registries – a Healthcare Facilities Registries and a Healthcare Professionals Registry – as part of a push to help healthcare professionals and healthcare providers like hospitals and clinics. Private actors can also register as Health Information Users or Health Information Providers, giving them access to the government’s digital health ecosystem.

The Mission is a component of the program mentioned above, administered by the National Health Authority, an administrative entity managing the country’s largest public health insurance/assurance program. The NHA’s website also manages the construction and improvement of the national digital health mission, which aims to create a national digital health ecosystem.
