Ayurveda Suggests Yogas For Your Body Type
According to Ayurveda, one’s mind-body system influences one’s health. It is stated that ideas in the mind cause diverse bodily reactions. Both are inextricably linked, therefore understanding one’s mind-body type is crucial to determining one’s health difficulties.
This connection is explained in Ayurveda by three working agents known as doshas. Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are the three doshas. Even though all human bodies include these three doshas, the dominance of one or more of them defines a person’s mind-body type. Ayurveda recommends the following yoga postures for a person’s dosha:
Vata Dosha
Vata Dosha people have a slim frame and are usually lively, passionate, inventive, and eager learners. They are best suited to yin and stretching yoga. Slow-paced, low-impact yoga practices provide the warmth and relaxation that persons with this bodily type or dosha require.
For those with Vata Dosha, yoga asanas like Vrksasana (tree pose), Tadasana (mountain posture), and Virabhadrasana I and Virabhadrasana 2 (Warrior One and Two poses) are suggested.
Pitta Dosha
People from Pita Dosha have a medium build. They have powerful digestion and acute hunger and thirst, although they are prone to impatience and aggression when stressed.
They should avoid hot yoga, which causes excessive perspiration because they have high energy levels and are often heated.
Yoga asanas that are cooling and calming are advised for them. They can calm down by doing yoga poses like Ustrasana (camel), Bhujangasana (cobra), Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (bridge) stance, Matsyasana (fish), Kapotasana (pigeon), and Vrksasana (tree).
Kapha Dosha
A person with a Kapha mind-body type has a robust and powerful frame, and they generally acquire weight quickly. While persons with the Pita Dosha should avoid hot yoga, those with the Kapha Dosha would gain greatly from it. Power yoga is also advocated, which is a forceful approach to vinyasa-style yoga. Standing Deep Breathing (Parayma), Half Moon Pose (Ardha-Chandrasana), and Awkward Pose are some of the hot yoga poses (Utkatasana).
In the meanwhile, the power yoga positions include Paripurna Navasana (Boat Pose), Chaturanga Dandasana (Plank Pose), Salabhasana (Locust Pose), and Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose).
