When asked lately if he has any intentions to enter politics, Bollywood actor-producer Akshay Kumar, who was most recently seen in YRF’s Samrat Prithviraj, said that he is “quite content” creating movies. The next movie Akshay will appear in is Raksha Bandhan, directed by Aanand L Rai.

Akshay said when asked about joining politics, “I am very happy making films… As an actor, I do whatever possible to take up social issues. I have produced 150 films, the one nearest to my heart is Raksha Bandhan.”

Akshay further mentioned that he does three to four commercial movies each year. “I produce commercial films, sometimes with social issues. I produce three-four films a year,” he said.

Both of Akshay’s movies in 2022—Bachchhan Paandey and Samrat Prithviraj—have had disastrous box office performances. The domestic gross for the YRF film was Rs 68.05 crore, whereas the box office takes for Bachchhan Paandey was Rs 49.98 crore.

Akshay Kumar revealed that he accepted to star in Raksha Bandhan even before ‘hearing’ the complete screenplay in a prior interview. He further added, “Aanand Ji narrated two lines of the story in the morning at my office, saying there are four sisters and this is the situation. I said yes to it. Some stories are universal and they touch you within five minutes (of narration). Even with Good Newwz, within three to five minutes I liked it and said okay to it. If somebody else had listened to this story (Raksha Bandhan), they would have said yes to it.”
