Despite being bowled out for 174 in their second innings by South Africa, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj (5 for 36) and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada (3 for 44) helped the host team to 165 runs in the second innings. But after winning the match by 158 runs on Monday, they took a clean sweep of the two-match series 2-0.
South Africa took a lead of 149 runs in their first innings which proved decisive in the end. West Indies bowlers bowled better in the second innings. Rassie van der Dussen top-scored with 74 not out in 142 balls with the help of five fours and a six, and Rabada’s 40 off 48 balls with the help of five fours and a six. The duo shared a 70-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
West Indies got a target of 324 runs to win but in front of the deadly bowling of Keshav and Rabada, the West Indies team was reduced to 165 runs in 58.3 overs. For the Windies, opener Kieran Powell top-scored with 51 runs in 116 balls with nine fours, while Kyle Myers scored 34, Jermaine Blackwood made 25 and Kemar Roach made 27.
Keshav took three wickets for 36 runs in 17.3 overs and Rabada took three wickets for 44 runs in 16 overs. Rabada got the Player of the Match and Quinton de Kock got the Player of the Series award. The five-match T20I series between the two teams will start on Saturday. This is the first time since 2010 that South Africa has played bilateral cricket in the West Indies.
