Abhishek Chatterjee, a Bengali television actor, died on Thursday at the age of 57. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences on the actor’s death. “Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee. Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends,” Mamta Banerjee tweeted.
Firhad Hakim, the mayor of Kolkata, also tweeted, “Deeply pained by the un-timely demise of talented & young actor of our Bengal film industry #AbhishekChatterjee. A strong personality both on screen & off it, he will be missed us and his countless admirers and followers. My deepest condolences. May his soul Rest in Peace.”
Chatterjee died at his home in Kolkata, according to sources. While the reason for death is unknown, Bharat Kal informed Anandbazar Patrika that the actor became unwell while filming a reality programme a few days ago. “Abhishek first became unwell on Tuesday as a result of food poisoning.” After shooting for a while in that state, he was transported home. On Wednesday, he also arrived to shoot Star Jalsa’s reality show ‘Smart Pair.’ His blood pressure fell to 60 in an instant. He was served black coffee right away. We returned him about 2.30 p.m. “That was our final meeting,” he explained.
Pathbhola (1986), directed by Tarun Majumdar, was Chatterjee’s cinematic debut. He was spotted with stalwarts like Utpal Dutt, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sandhya Roy, and Tapas Paul. Surer Akashe, Ora Charjon, Arjun Aamar Naam, Tumi Koto Sundar, Toofan, Maryada, Amar Prem, Papi, Sabuj Saathi, Haraner Nat Jamai, and Mayer Anchal are among his other flicks. The experienced performer has also appeared on television.
Throughout his career, he worked with Bengali film industry stars like Sandhya Roy, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Tapas Paul, and Utpal Dutt. He was most recently seen in Star Jalsha’s Khorkuto (2020).
