5G support finally arrives on the iPhone 12 and above in India
Apple has recently announced that on December 13 at 11:30 p.m. local time, consumers with Jio and Airtel connections will be able to use iPhones in India with official 5G connectivity. Users in India will be able to benefit from 5G network speed in locations with coverage after iOS 16.2 is released. All suitable iPhone models issued in 2020 or later will have 5G functionality turned on. These comprise the families of iPhones 12, 13, and 14, as well as the most recent iPhone SE model. Because Airtel and Jio SIMs are interchangeable, those who already have a 4G SIM and data package won’t need to make any changes.
How can I activate 5G on my iPhone in India?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, select General, and then select Software Update. The choice to download iOS 16.2 will be displayed. Download the update after agreeing to the terms.
You might notice a brand-new 5G status icon in the notification area after the update has been deployed and your iPhone has rebooted (if Wi-Fi is not currently active). If not, go to Cellular > Cellular Data Options in the settings app by tapping on it. If you have two active SIM cards, you can decide which one to utilise for 5G.

If you want your iPhone to dynamically alter your connection speed to assist conserve battery life, you can leave the default Auto option enabled. Since the older standard uses less power, your smartphone will switch to 4G LTE when you aren’t using high-speed internet in this mode. When 5G is enabled in the Cellular Data Options settings, your device will be compelled to use it whenever coverage is available. In contrast, switching to LTE will ignore 5G and may be advantageous to extend battery life.
Both iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, which were released at the same time, added a few new features in addition to bug fixes and security updates. They also enabled 5G compatibility for iPhones. Freeform is a brand-new app that lets users brainstorm with others and sketch ideas and designs. This software was shown off earlier this year before the launch of iOS 16, but it has only now begun to be distributed. Users may use the Apple Pencil to sketch on iPads that are compatible, and it will be available on Macs in addition to iPads and iPhones.
Apple Music Sing is a brand-new karaoke mode that enables users to sing along to their favourite songs while the lyrics are being presented on screen, either by themselves or in a duet with the original artist. In supported regions, the Emergency SOS Via Satellite feature, which is now only available on the iPhone 14 series, will also become available. Apple points out enhancements to the lock screen user interface, most notably the option to modify the way notifications are shown and turn off your home screen wallpaper on the always-on display of the iPhone 14 Pro series.
Users of iPhones won’t be able to continuously allow their devices to accept files via AirDrop from strangers. Recently, a 10-minute window was implemented in China; today, it is used all over the world. Apple claims that this will stop spam, but others have pointed out that it might also stop information from being transmitted ad hoc, like during protest rallies.
The new Sleep and Medications widgets, the ability to find photos in Messages by describing their content in words, improved iCloud Private Relay controls, improved crash detection on the iPhone 14 series, and a bug fix for iCloud data syncing are some additional unspecified changes. Multiplayer support over FaceTime for Game Centre games is also included.
