The US State Department has urged American citizens to be vigilant while traveling to China. The BBC said on Friday that the new guidelines warn about the so-called exits restrictions, which prevent foreign nationals from leaving China. It also states that American citizens have been detained for years and have been facing harassment under the exemption ban.
Advisory said, “American citizens can be detained without access to the councilor service or they can be detained without giving information about their alleged crime.”
New advice also warns of ‘special restrictions’ on American-Chinese dual citizenship holders. It advises traveling on a US passport with a valid Chinese visa and has asked officials to immediately inform the American Embassy if they are detained or arrested. This warning came out after accusing three American citizens of ‘economic crime’ and banning leaving China in November.
