Consumers of Dish and Cable TV often have to pay for those channels, which they never see. The reason for this is that they are part of a pack. But, now it is going to change from February 1. The deadline of this change was first on December 29, but the companies did not succeed in it, and TRAI has now fixed the date of February 1.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has now given time to January 31st for satellite and cable TV operators for new pricing and channel selection systems. Under the new system, viewers will have to pay for select channels instead of paying the money for any pack. This will give them the option to choose their favorite channels.
Still, the offers will continue on the pack, but customers can not be compelled to pay only the channels given in the pack. Customers still have the option to select a single channel on paper, but service providers bundle channels.
Price of 19 bucks for one channel
Not only that, TRAI has also fixed the prices of the channels. For any single channel the audience will have to pay only up to a maximum of 19 rupees. In December, the prices offered by Broadcasters to TRAI are less than 4 to 5 times the current rates. At present, the cost per channel is up to 60 rupees per month, so customers feel comfortable packing.
